A game jam is an event where you make a video game in 48 hours. It's a great way to develop your skills as a game developer in areas such as art, design, programming, and audio. It's also a great way to meet people interested in game development, and it's a lot of fun!
At the beginning of the jam participants will form teams and a a theme will be announced. You have 48 hours to make a new original game based on that theme. At the end of the jam everyone gets to show off their games and win awesome prizes!
Yes! When you register on the eventbrite page you can simply choose the free registration option. However, we would appreciate it if you could make a donation in whatever amount you can, as all donations will go towards improving the quality of the event.
No. If you want to work with friends you are welcome to form a team before the event. However, we encourage you to try to form a team at the event (and we will have a designated time on Friday evening for this) as it's a great way to meet new people with complimentary skill sets.
Whatever you will need to make games. If you are making digital games you should bring a computer with whatever software you will need (there will be internet access, but you wont want to waste valuable time installing software). If you plan on making a board game you should bring a pen and paper at the very least, but probably also some poster board, art supplies such as markers, dice, etc. If you plan on doing sound design you might want to bring a microphone and musical instruments. Artists may want to bring things like wacom tablets. Basically whatever you will need for your specific talents. Also headphones are highly recommended to maintain the sanity of those working around you.
If you are new to game development there are a lot of great game engines available, and luckily most of them are now free!
However, it can be a bit overwhelming to choose one. If you know generally the type of game you want to make I'd recommend checking out www.sortingh.at/
We will have vegan and vegetarian options available. If you have other dietary needs please email us and we will try to work something out.
